Janet Balke, PhD, MBA, MHA, BSN, RN

Balke received her BSN (1981) from the University of Kansas, her MBA and MHA from the University of Houston (1999), and her PhD from Capella University (2006). Balke's dissertation topic was "Nurse Executives: A Grounded Theory Study of Dynamic Competencies.” She has practiced nursing in a variety of settings, including surgical/trauma ICU, oncology, home health, and hospice. Her roles include staff nurse, unit manager, and administrator. She has been a health care consultant since 1994, focusing on nursing and health care executive competencies, strategic business development, and related topics. She serves on the board of a large medical practice foundation in Houston, Texas.

Suzanne Holmes, DPA, MA, BA
Dean, School of Public Service Leadership
Capella University

Holmes’s professional background includes executive leadership positions with hospitals, medical groups, managed care organizations, and governmental agencies. Her research interests focus on managed care's impact on access and quality, the application of e-commerce and e-learning to the human services arena in the form of cost-containment and quality enhancement strategies, the internationalization of the health sciences workforce, and issues of public health policy. Holmes holds a DPA from the University of La Verne, an MA in public and international affairs from George Washington University, and a BA in political science from the University of California.
