Between clinical practice, care coordination, and study management, research is now vital to nurses’ career success. However, most clinical nurses are not properly prepared to undertake the massive responsibility of research.

Not anymore! The Nursing Knowledge Center has developed a brand-new training program, The Ins and Outs of Nursing Research, to help you successfully launch your next research project through a guided mentoring process.

This course will provide you with research best practices, pertinent tools, and expert guidance so you can conduct nursing research.

Independent study format (4 weeks total):

  • Pre-course work – January 2-13, 2017
  • Week 1 – January 16-20, 2017
  • Week 2 – January 23-27, 2017
  • Live Webinar – January 31 at 12:00pm–1:00pm, EST
  • Week 3 – February 6-10, 2017
  • Week 4 – February 13-17, 2017
*IMPORTANT NOTICE: The first module starts on January 16, 2017, and pre-course work is required. To participate fully in the literature review, it is necessary to have personal access to online databases (e.g., CINAHL) to perform a search. This may be a benefit through your organization, through your school, or even a public library.*

 Key Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this 9.5-credit course, you will be able to:

  • Increase your confidence with research by developing a project with the assistance of an expert nurse researcher
  • Get a head start on the research process by developing a research question and completing a literature review
  • Design a study with mentoring/feedback from an expert
  • Save time and stress by learning the approval process for conducting research
  • Advance your research career by writing an abstract and creating a poster to disseminate your research at conferences

Dr. Rebecca Clark, RN

Dr. Rebecca Clark has over thirty years of experience teaching and conducting nursing research. For the past ten years, she has led the nursing research department for a large Magnet®-designated health system, securing grant funding for clinical research projects and teaching staff how to conduct clinical research projects and how to present and publish their work. Currently, Dr. Clark consults with hospitals, working with nursing staff to conceptualize, develop, and conduct research, evidence-based work, and quality-improvement projects.
