In today’s fast-paced healthcare environment, partnership with patients and families plays a key role in achieving optimal outcomes, quality care, and safety for all. Patients and families have moved beyond just having a voice in their own care….they now participate in designing and improving care processes in many healthcare settings. This online course provides you with up-to-date information to aid you in identifying opportunities for patient and family engagement and develop understanding of how emerging care models will impact the healthcare workforce and delivery of care.

Dr. Knitasha Washington, is a multi-dimensional health care professional with 20 years combined service in healthcare administration, managed care, health services operations and health disparities research. She is a master change management agent with demonstrated skill managing consultative performance improvement projects, developing, managing and advising on health policy matters as well as for public health campaigns. Dr. Washington has international health experience with extensive knowledge of strategies to advance innovation and improve outcomes through community engagement, patient engagement and stakeholder alignment. She has a proven track-record working with safety net, public and teaching healthcare systems. As a health equity practitioner and social science researcher her skill and expertise bridges population health methodologies with the applied science of health services delivery.

Dr. Washington has worked with healthcare systems, U.S. government agencies and numerous policymaker groups to ensure that the rights of all patients are respected, particularly the most vulnerable populations. She is currently the Executive Director of Consumers Advancing Patient Safety, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the role of the consumer as a partner in pursuing healthcare that is safe, compassionate and just. Dr. Washington also heads an independent consulting firm ATW Health Solutions based in Chicago, Illinois. Shaped by her passion and belief in social justice, Knitasha has earned recognition nationally for work in health equity and patient safety.
