Nurses need to emphasize the importance of basic oral care — not just for comfort but also as an essential life-saving measure for patients. Implementing an oral care program with every hospital patient is an indispensable part of the national effort to protect patients from hospital-acquired infections. The goal of this course is to discuss causes and impacts of unaddressed nonventilator hospital-acquired pneumonia and how basic nursing and oral care can prevent this illness.
